18/05 :  Fact Ninety-Six

I love Jeff Gordon. He's the reason I've enjoyed Nascar since 1997. My ex-husband Scott took me to the Nascar races at the Michigan Speedway for my birthday while we were dating. It was an incredible time. I don't think I was sober for one moment which was part of the fun. EVERYONE was having a great time and partying. You couldn't walk anywhere without someone filling up your empty glass with whatever they happened to have on hand. Believe you me, it was well worth enduring the heat of the June sun and the stench of unshowered people.

I think my favorite part of all was when I got to stand up next to the fence during the main event and smile as the cars zoomed past so fast I almost thought I'd missed them. But the rubber, grit, and dirt those cars tossed up into my smiling face didn't bother me, it just excited me to no end. WOW! What power those engines have roaring past. It was if my body were experiencing an earthquake from the strength of the rumbles.

Jeff Gordon placed...I think 6th that race, but he beat out Dale Earnhart and that's all that mattered to me. I endured comments about how my darling little Jeffy would have to go change his diapers after the race and comments about his lack of manhood. I took great delight in rubbing the dirty diaper on their losing faces. YAY!
