04/05 :  Fact Ninety-Three

I do not believe in murder as a form of punishment or a form of birth control.

Statistically speaking, the death penalty does nothing to deter crime. The criminals who have murdered so heinously are given far more mercy and compassion than their victims. That makes no sense at all. Murders are committed every day. It doesn't seem that any of them are afraid of the repercussions because the death penalty, if given, gives them at least another, if I remember correctly, 15-20 years of appeals, free health care, and the like. For what? Having had a dear friend murdered by a fellow student, I understand the anger and requirement for justice, but even with that, I didn't think he deserved to die. It makes no sense to me.

As for abortion, murder is murder is murder. When the baby is conceived, it is a child. The only exception I could even say okay, is if the pregnancy is not viable (i.e. ectopic pregnancy). I have been in those shoes. I'm not saying that a woman shouldn't have a choice of what happens to her body, but it's not just her body she's making choices for that are life and death. I don't think abortion should be illegal, but I don't think it should be used as birth control.

Murder is murder.
